Description

Article no.: xylQ-8663

Bokashi startkit for composting kitchen waste.

Make soil and fertilize your food waste! Help preserve biomass and reduce greenhouse gases. You reduce the amount of waste by 200-500 kg per year and you save money on the garbage collection!

Your food waste is converted into a fermentation process. There will be no soil in the bucket but the conversion will take place very quickly when you dig it into the land, compost, planting pots or soil box. The liquid in the food waste is drained off with the tap in the bottom. Feel free to use napkins, egg cartons or similar to absorb moisture.

Complete set with:

  • 2 buckets with faucet
  • Accessories - plate for compression, dosage measure, container for draining nutrient liquid
  • Base for the bucket where the bokashi liquid container is located
  • 1 kg Bokashi bedding material
  • Swedish user manual

The buckets are made of recycled plastic in EU and have handles, tight fitting lids, inner bottom plate and a drain tap. The bucket is adapted for placement in kitchen cabinets. It is easy to handle and carry, and is easily cleaned with water.

  • Size (h, w, d) 31.5 x 35.2 x 30.2 cm
  • Volume 15.3 liters
  • Material in bucket and bottom grid is recycled Polypropylene ( PP5 )

What can you place in the bucket?
- All organic kitchen waste like:
• Fruit and vegetables
• Meat and fish, cooked or raw.
• Other food like bread, cheese, eggshells, tea bags, pasta and more.
• Flowers, leafs and small branches
• Kitchen papers and napkins in small amounts.

Avoid:
• Milk, juice, sause and other liquids
• Large meatbones
• …and of course plastic containers and more.

How does it work?
The bedding material from Bokashi is made from wheat that is fermented with a specific mixture called effective microorganisms. When you pour the material over food waste into an airtight bucket, a fermentation process begins and the microbes multiply in the anaerobic environment. The leftovers are fermented - just like when you make lactic acid vegetables. Therefor, the contents of your bucket looks the same after a few weeks. It does not transform to soil in the bucket, but it will very fast when it's mixed with soil later. The energy in the food remains, nothing disappears like carbon dioxide or methane which it does in traditional composting. All the nutrition and energy is stored in the bokashi and comes in handy when the waste is being buried in the ground.
