The contents of the compost bucket from the kitchen have a few characteristics that require special attention. It is easily degradable and nutritious, which means that the process can go fast. This in turn means that good access to oxygen in the compost mass is required, and that much water can quickly form in the compost. This can attract pests of various kinds, primarily mice, rats, birds and badgers. It also happens that wild boar tries to enter the household compost. Practically this means that it is important that a container for household waste is designed so that it can keep the pests outside the compost. In addition, the compost material must be supplemented with a dry absorbent material, stream material, so that the compost mass does not become wet, compact and begin to smell. The current material should be poor in nutrients to balance the nitrogen content of the waste.
